W. Curtis Draper Tobacconist Raises $55K For Local Charities
Via Draper’s Little Puff Weekend Events
Washington, DC — September 29, 2010 — W. Curtis Draper the oldest full-service tobacconist in the District of Columbia announced today that it’s signature fundraisers — The 11th Annual Draper’s Little Puff, which took place on Friday, September 24, 2010 on the Rooftop Terrace of 101 Constitution Avenue and The 2nd Annual Draper’s After Puff Recovery Lunch which took place on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at Shelly’s Back Room — raised $55,000 for the following local charities:
- The Erik Kristensen Memorial Scholarship Fund at Gonzaga College High School: LCDR Erik Kristensen, SEAL Team 10, courageously gave his life for his teammates and country in 2005 while serving in Afghanistan. The Kristensen Scholarship was established by his family, friends and classmates to benefit two worthy Gonzaga students from military families.
- The Pat Krimm Scholarship Fund at DeMatha Catholic High School: Pat Krimm helped establish the hockey program at the Hyattsville, MD school. Funds raised provide financial aid for students who would not otherwise be able to attend DeMatha.
- The Anne Berman Memorial Scholarship: Named for the wife of a loyal Drapers customer, the Berman Scholarship offers financial assistance to women pursuing advanced degrees in the sciences.
- The House of Ruth: House of Ruth helps women, children and families in greatest need and with very limited resources build safe, stable lives and achieve their highest potential. It serves women, children and families who are striving to overcome childhood trauma, domestic violence, homelessness, mental health disorders and substance abuse. House of Ruth provides nurturing, structured, safe housing and caring, consistent, individualized services in order to capitalize on the participants’ strengths such as courage and resiliency.

In 11 years The Little Puff has raised close to $500,000 for various worthy charities. According to Draper’s co-owner John Anderson, “The Little Puff events benefit the children of military families and women and families at risk. That alone has made coordinating these events worthwhile for the last 11 years.”
Dates for The 12th Annual Draper’s Little Puff and The 3rd Annual Draper’s After Puff Recovery Lunch will be announced in Summer 2011.
